2016 Grand National Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on February 22, 2016 19:21 GMTThings just got very interesting in the ante post market for the 2016 Grand National since the Paul Nicholls yard has firmly pointed Silviniaco Conti towards the Grand National, sending prices tumbling down to as low as 10/1 with various bookmakers. There are still a few offering up 14/1 while the majority float the talented chaser at a 12/1 listing.

He has been out four times already this season and has only managed a single victory as he stormed home by a massive 20 length margin with his usual pilot Noel Fehily in the irons in the Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase. He had previously boasted an entry for the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival but he now looks pointed directly at the big race at Aintree and he is is likely to see his price drop significantly as we get closer to the contest itself.
He had been a 9/1 outsider for the King George this year after winning the race the previous year, ultimately pulled up three from home as he began to weaken and Fehily realized it wasn’t worth the risk to keep going. He was able to triumph last time out as the favourite and he looks to be standing in good stead for the oversized fences on the National course.
The big rival is Many Clouds, who had been comfortably trading as a 12/1 shout and the lukewarm standout for quite some time. Oliver Sherwood’s charge hasn’t been able to muster up a victory yet this season and was a full 12 lengths behind Smad Place last time out in the Cotswald Chase.
Obviously he does have plenty of claims about his chances for the big race considering he won the thing last year but he had enjoyed several victories already that season by the time the National actually rolled around. You have to favour him on genuine ability but it looks like there certainly could be better horses coming into the race at better prices.
