2016 Supreme Novices Hurdle Cheltenham Betting Tips PT 2

After winning his first hurdles race by a whopping 34 length margin when sent off as the 5/6 favourite, Altior then took a Class 3 hurdle at Ascot and then was able to capture the Grade 2 Supreme Novices Hurdle Trial by a half length margin in a testing battle with Maputo.

He was out at Kempton on Boxing Day and took a Class 2 novice hurdle by a solid margin of 13 lengths. He appears to be coming into the festival going great guns but he lacks the notable buzz of a recent score like Min does. At the time of this writing, many consider the Nicky Henderson charge to be England’s best chance to open their account on day one.

Another interesting contender to enter the mix is Yorkhill who is one of the stand out young novice hurdlers in Willy Mullins yard right now. After unseating his rider in a point to point at Toomebridge, he got right down to business next time out and has been undefeated in five runs since. Look for him to kick on nicely here if he is able to replicate some of his most recent runs.

His most notable score was his last one, which came at Sandown when he captured the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle against a relatively slim field of 5. He was sent off as the 4/9 favourite on the day and looked good doing it - winning the race by a very solid two length margin. Right now, you’ll find him available at a solid price of about 8/1 with most major bookmakers.

A notable each-way selection appears to be Willy Mullins Long Dog, who trades at 25/1 but boasts shorter prices for some of the other novice hurdle contests at the festival. He was able to best Tombstone last time out and Tombstone is gathering up plenty of steam for his bid for the Supreme Novices.

The Gordon Elliott trainee scored at Fairyhouse in his maiden effort but was undone by the higher-priced Long Dog as he attempted the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown last time out.
