A Bright Future Ahead for Dalglish and Liverpool
- By A.D. Winn on May 12, 2011 18:34 GMT“Kenny has lifted the place, the supporters, the players and everyone connected with the club and now we can all look forward to a bright future”
Steven Gerrard’s words will be echoed all around the red half of Liverpool this evening, fresh from the news that Kenny Dalglish has been signed as permanent club manager for the next three years.
Dalglish, who took over from the sacked Roy Hodgson, has won 11 of his 21 games back in charge of the Reds, a stat that perhaps doesn’t fully reflect the amazing turnaround the club has achieved since his appointment in January.
With wins over Chelsea, and both Manchester City and Manchester United in the league this year, King Kenny has turned a floundering, bereft side into a confident, attacking machine, one that the supporters feel confident could push for a league challenge next season.
The odds prior to the club announcement this morning, Liverpool were priced at between 12/1 (bet365) and 14/1 (Ladbrokes) to win their first Premier League trophy, and 18/1 at some bookmakers to finish in the top four.
After the news, William Hill placed odds on King Kenny winning the league in his three year spell (5/1), the Champions League (11/1), or even who will retire first between Dalglish and Sir Alex Ferguson (11/10 for Dalglish, 4/6 for Fergie).
Whatever happens over the next three years, The Kop will no doubt be delighted that they have secured a club legend to a long-term deal; one that could see the Reds challenge for glory once again.
