Arc De Triomphe Main Contenders Part 1

As we get closer and closer to the biggest race of the season in Europe the ante post market is becoming exponentially more interesting. Punters have piled on to the star runner Orfevre and backed him as low as 2/1 with most European bookmakers with a price that looks likely to go even shorter on the day.

While his connections will be certainly praying for him to avenge his slim loss last year in the exact same race, Orfevre has his work cut out for him against the creme de la creme of European flat competitors. 

With a 2/1 listing holding at the time of this writing, punters will struggle to find a high price on Orfevre - especially with the ground looking likely to play to his favour once the runners actually line up at the post.

There has been plenty of interesting swings in the wagering as this market has developed but one thing is for certain - there are five or six horses who could easily win the race with a few lucky breaks going their way at the right moments. 

The pride of Japan came within a mere quarter length of Arc glory last year after easily capturing a Group 2 prep race at Longchamp to get himself situated.

Solemia ultimately got the better of him by the slimmest of margins but the well-conformed son of Stay Gold will be looking likely to pull off the result here if he runs to the same quality he displayed by capturing the exact same prep race a mere three weeks ago. 

You’ll notice that in his last race he was moved out of his comfort zone and pushed into the mix early - tracking the leaders in a manner that he doesn’t normally display. Instead of loping along at the back with the trailers, he was put near the pace early on and was able to kick into high gear when it mattered most - capturing the race by a 3 length margin.
