He shipped back to Germany to capture a Group 1 in the homeland of his connections and was backed down to a 1/6 price tag.
While a considerable amount of volume is expected on him from German books, many have a feeling that he might be due for a defeat, but it’s important to remember how selectively he has been campaigned this year.
The Arc will be Novellist’s fifth race of the flat season and he will be looking to finish perfect. He is now trading as the clear third favourite to win the race with most European books floating him at a 5/1 price.
The other interesting single-digit runner is Japanese three-year-old Kizuna, who is by Deep Impact out of a Canadian-bred Storm Cat mare named Catequil. With only six races under his belt so far, the bay or brown colt has won his last four contests - the main race being the Grade 1 Japanese Derby at Tokyo racecourse.
He showed the ability to beat very large fields in every victory this season and was able to topple 18 in the Japanese Derby before shipping over to Longchamp for the Group 2 Qatar Prix Neil when he got the better of the well-fancied Ruler of The World by a short head.
