Ascot Gold Cup Day Betting Tips PT 1
- By A.J. There is also the Tercentenary Stakes, a Group 3 affair coming up on the heels of the Norfolk, along with the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes for three-year-old fillies.

The Britannia Stakes, a big money Heritage Handicap race with 30 declared runners and the King George V, also a Heritage Handicap race, but with a miniscule field of only 19 runners.
The Group 2 Norfolk Stakes kicks things off and most of the wagering attention is being paid to the Aidan O’Brien-trained The Great War who is undefeated in two races and looks a sharp million dollar acquisition at last year’s Keeneland select sale. Bred by Claiborne Farms and looking every bit the quality runner that wins these types of races at two, many expect him to be the latest feather in War Front’s cap.
He was 1/9 last time out and will have Joseph O’Brien in the irons again this time. He was around 6/5 in the early betting when the market opened but he is now into odds-on territory with a slim 10/11 price tag.
The other one to watch in here is the lone filly, entered by American trainer Wesley Ward. To Be Determined didn’t win her first race the way that Ward’s other charge No Nay Never was able to do prior to capturing this same race last year, but she did show plenty of quality in that previous run. Look for her around 13/2 right now but likely to drift up if The Great War continues to take the vast bulk of the wagering.
Cannock Chase, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, is the selection in the second contest of the day, the Tercentenary Stakes and the Lemon Drop Kid colt looms large as the key partner to Ryan Moore in what could be his third victory on the bounce.
