Ascot Gold Cup Day Betting Tips PT 2

William Haggas trains Mutakayyef for Sheikh Hamdan and Paul Hanagan will be in the irons as usual. Look for these two to link up in a very interesting 1m2f contest here at the Group 3 level.

Cannock Chase trades at 9/4 right now while Mutakayyef can be backed at 5/1 while 6/1 Barley Mow could be an interesting outsider - having beaten Mutakayyef two races back.

Vazira attracts the betting attention in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes for three-year-old fillies but with a deep field like this it’s tough to really lump on serious dosh on a 3/1 favourite.

Take a look at John Gosden’s Criteria who was really unlucky last time in a listed contest to finish beaten by a nose to Honor Bound. Clearly outrunning the 8/1 odds in a field of ten quality runners at Lingfield. It’s also worth noting that Honor Bound was tipped by Pricewise and that Criteria still finished a length further than the next best-placed horse, Momentous, who wound up acquitting herself pretty well next out finishing eighth in the Oaks despite a 50/1 price tag - finishing ahead of nine others.

Criteria trades at 16/1 while the other John Gosden entry Bright Approach looks likely to get much more play with a price of 7/1 now being taken into 5/1.

The Ascot Gold Cup is the really interesting contest of the day and, though many appear more than willing to lump considerable sums onto Leading Light, who is currently beaten down to a mere 11/10 from a 6/5 when the market opened, you have to admit that there are probably about five or six who could definitely win this race even without a mistake from the betting favourite.
