Bet on The 2013 Cheltenham Open Pt 2

The second race of the day at Cheltenham is a Class 2 novice chase that has a few talented contenders set to run - take a look at Shutthefrontdoor, who has been a reliable sort most of the time and could certainly justify a short price. You reckon that many punters will be using him as their nap of the day and including him in a variety of multi-race wagers. He still gets a 3 lb break on the top weight White Star Lane and is likely to get AP.

Le Bec looks to be the other one to beat and he comes off a victory on his seasonal debut at Uttoxeter when besting a Class 4 field by a seven length margin over timber back in early October.

Paul Nicholls will send out Black Thunder for this one and, because he’s acquitted himself well in a handicap, doesn’t really get much of a break in the weights. H ewas able to capture his last race but prior to that hadn’t been in the winners circle since April of 2012 and that was in a 2k novice hurdle at Chepstow. Nicholls fires sharp with first timers and this one appears to enjoy chasing but he will be up against seasoned contenders here.

The Murphy Group Handicap Chase is a Grade 3 contest going 3m3f110y and attracting a hard-knocking group of staying chasers. The likes of Burton Port, Our Mick, Becauseicouldntsee and Any Currency are all in the mix here and you can expect this race to be one of the trickier puzzles of the day if you’re looking to back an outright winner.

Tour Des Champs outran his odds last time when finishing well behind Balthazar King on his seasonal debut at Cheltenham back in mid-October. He did beat 14 other horses that day and was sent off at 11/2 in a handicap chase that’s at or near this level. That bodes well for how Twiston-Davies had him ready for the season and the fact that he is being turned out again a few weeks later shows that they are confident - particularly because of their choice of race.
