This year's iteration of the York Ebor is going to be a real cracking race with an extremely deep field set to contest it. Europe's richest handicap has proven to be the staging ground for a number of incredible stories throughout the years and there are a few laying down some serious claims to repeat as the betting favourite.

Motivado looks to be the one to beat at this point as punters have bet him down to 5/1. He enters the race with a very credible victory in his third start of the season. Having bested a tough group going 1m6f at Goodwood, you know that he four-year-old has no real qualms with the distance. He looks to still be offering up plenty of improvement and, if you examine the spacing between his races, you'll see that he was pointed here from the get-go.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained bay gelding has a late-running style that will be much more effective if he gets firmer ground to work with. A relatively hot early tempo is more than likely as there are several long-odds frontrunning types here who just might try and sneak it. If they can draw in some of his marquee challengers then Motivado could be running at tired horses over the last 2f.
Camborne looks to be one of the key challengers here and Princess Haya's gelding only has six races under his belt and should improve nicely going forward. He scored in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap when sent off at 11/2. He is yet to prove his chops at the distance and John Gosden's charge will need to be positioned well to hold off the withering run expected from Motivado.
High Jinx is also relatively lightly-raced for a handicapper and he enters off a credible place finish in a listed contest at York back in mid-July. Prior to that he scored in a 15-strong handicap when sent off as the 7/2 favourite.
Similar to Motivado, you can expect him to lope along towards the rear at the start. Those backing either of them will have to hope that they stay out of each others' way.
Qahriman lines up for Luca Cumani's yard and he's got a victory under his belt and remains an entire colt – another reason to give him a second look. He's got some versatility and will be looking to take advantage of any mistakes the favourites might be making. He has been taken into 8/1 by several bookmakers.
Other notables in this one include Blackstairmountain who deserves plenty of respect at his 14/1 price – it may just make him a bit of an each-way option for some. Galileo's Choice is set to line up and has a wide variance in price with some bookmakers floating him at 12/1 while others see him at 16s.
Look for Parlour Games to do something serious, two starts off the lay-off as he comes out for the Darley yard.
