His most recent score was an emphatic eleven length victory in the Keltbray Holloway’s Hurdle. He was sent off at a 6/1 listing and really was able to flash some quality against a field that was fairly competitive despite being novice company.

Both Irving and Irish Saint are hovering around 6/1 or 7/1 with most major bookmakers and there is little between them at this point, though the odds fluctuating in the build-up to the race might just make things a bit more interesting. It’s also worth noting that Irving has an entry for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in about a month’s time while Irish Saint is only entered in this race.

With Irving’s connections keeping their eye on March’s action, you get the feeling that maybe they don’t want to leave his Supreme Novices’ race at Cheltenham on the course at Newbury so they may only push him 70-80%, whereas Irish Saint will be set to give 100%. It looks like Irish Saint continues to show more upside but you also get the feeling that Irish Saint is a bit more skilled when dealing with Graded company and that could factor into the equation.

Cheltenian is one of the key challengers here and his price is hovering around that of Irish Saint and Irving, but he’s not quite as highly-rated in the grand scheme of things. He has only had a single effort this year - capturing a maiden hurdle contest at Uttoexeter. Prior to that he had run in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle to finish a disappointing 10th back 60 lengths in total.

Many might remember Cheltinian when he captured the Wetherby’s Champion Bumper at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival when he beat out a field of 24 and toppled Destroyer Deployed by a five-length margin to win at 14/1.
