Betfair Hurdle Betting Update Pt 1

With only 2m110y to work with, there is little margin for error here - particularly with a field this big. A full field of 21 looks set to contest this one and there’s going to be a few interesting fancies in the leading pack - as well as a few of the longer odds selections. Needless to say, this is a race that could easily be won by a significant ante post fancy.

One of the really big stories here is Swing Bowler who returns to action after a lengthy amount of time on the bench. He’s generally floating around 16/1 with a few books, but we have also seen his price clipped with a few outside options. He can be backed as low as 12s with the likes of a few lower profile bookmakers. We all know how capable Swing Bowler is and he was in a relatively rich vein of form before getting sidelined after two disappointing efforts. Expect him to be back here in cracking form but you probably do want to back him on the each-way considering the fact that this is likely a Cheltenham prep for him and they won’t want him to leave his big money Cheltenham victory on the course here at Newbury. Though there is well over 80,000 quid to be won here, you reckon they might be happy with the lions share of that as well and potentially push on at Aintree (where we know he’s got some skill) or possibly even Punchestown if they’re feeling adventurous.

Deep Trouble warrants plenty of respect as well and we’re seeing some real variance in his prices thanks to the gulf between 16/1 and 20/1. He has the added advantage of having not finished outside of the top two in his last six races although it must be admitted that he is stepping up to tangle with much more accomplished company than we have seen in any of those races.

With a good quality run against this type of competition (and that doesn’t exactly equate to a genuine victory) he would likely see himself come into much more serious contention at the Cheltenham Festival.
