Big Buck’s Now Odds-On For 4th World Hurdle

After rolling home in one of his easiest efforts ever going over hurdles, Big Bucks’ made a major statement about his intentions again this year during his seasonal debut at Newbury. The legendary Paul Nicholls-trained long distance hurdler will be looking for his fourth World Hurdle on the bounce and attempting to accomplish a feat few have ever seen.
Needless to say, he went off at a microscopic price on Saturday but that didn’t do much to shorten his odds for the penultimate race at Cheltenham in March 2013. It was the relatively poor showing of Voler La Vedette at Fairyhouse on Sunday that prompted bookmakers to slash his price into odds-on across all major books.

William Hill clipped his price into 4/5 having been one of the few major bookmakers still offering at even money price on Big Buck’s to win his fourth world hurdle.
Voler La Vedette, who chased Big Buck’s home last year, was considered to be a potential usurper to the crown next year but finishing third in her race saw Zarkandar (the winner of that one) wind up being installed as the clear second favourite to Big Buck’s.
The bookmakers have him floating as high as 14/1 to unseat the legendary hurdling sensation.
Peddlers Cross, Thousand Stars and Zaidpour are all trading at 16/1 margins to unseat Big Buck’s and some of these may be interesting opportunities on the exchange as one of them could easily take a big move forward and wind up going off at a competitive price come next March. Even if they don’t win against Big Buck’s, the ability to lay them off at 6/1 would be enticing for those backing at 16s.
Get Me Out Of Here is trading at a 20/1 margin while Smad Place - who ran against Big Buck’s on Saturday - can be backed at an identical price tag. Look for him to make a few moves forward this year as he gets a bit more used to battling it out over hurdles at the top level.
Monksland trades at 25/1 while Batonnier sits at 33/1. Rocky Creek and Sea Of Thunder can be backed at an identical price to round out the ante post market.
