Lea has been out of sight for quite a while but connections have said that they will be back for the Classic. Most major bookmakers have priced Lea at a 7/1 margin but that is simply far too short and he is very likely to be a double-digit price on the day unless he makes a genuinely amazing pre-race appearance.

Bayern remains the real wild card at this point as the speedball frontrunner has racked up an impressive list of races and boasts a free entry into the Breeders’ Cup Classic thanks to his victory in the Haskell Stakes. While many had previously doubted his ability to get the full 1m2f distance that the Breeders’ Cup Classic will be contested at, the fact remains that he has proven himself well and truly able to get the result by challenging hard on the front end.
With Moreno looking likely to be removed from the Classic challenge, he may very well have a free run on the lead and that will definitely make things a lot easier for him - he may be able to simply run away with the race in a similar manner to what Fort Larned did two years ago when he took off and never looked back on the speed-favouring Santa Anita dirt surface. There is every chance that could happen again unless some serious early speed goes out there to challenge him.
Should Bayern run in the Classic - he would be a near lock to win the Breeders’ Cup dirt mile for owner Kaleem Shah - then there remains the chance that Shared Belief’s conditioner Jerry Hollendorfer may supplement a frontrunner to take him out of the race. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out and Bayern remains at a competitive price of 7/1 right now to win the Classic.
Toast of New York shipped over to Del Mar from England for a big run after winning the UAE Derby after a prep race at Wolverhampton of all places. The European invader looks like the only likely contender from across the pond for the Classic and his ability to actually pull off a victory will be completely up in the air as he is relatively untested on pure dirt courses and tends to prefer synthetics. He trades at 14/1 alongside the likes of V.E. Day and Moonshine Mullin.
