Breeders’ Cup Classic Betting Tips Pt 3
- By A.J. Ryder on August 31, 2014 01:15 GMTLea has been a very mysterious contender for a while and hasn’t actually been on the track for a while, but you have to reckon this horse has a lot of potential and the fact that he has been aimed at the Classic for quite a while means that he will definitely be heading to Santa Anita on the day if fit. It’s going to be really interesting to see how his campaign looks during the build-up to the Classic. Ignore Lea at your peril, but you may want to wait a bit longer to see if he’s actually going to make the Classic instead of avoiding it due to injury.

Punters will find Lea trading at 10/1.
Will Take Charge emerged on the scene on last year’s Kentucky Derby trail and he came within a hairsbreath of capturing the Breeders’ Cup Classic last year as he was held off by Mucho Macho Man and finished just a shade in front of Joseph O’Brien and Declaration of War. He hasn’t exactly boasted a season to write home about this year but he really showed acumen over the surface last year and his conditioner D. Wayne Lukas knows how to win big races like this and will likely have him raring to go. If he doesn’t perform well in the Classic, expect him to be retired. Will Take Charge is a quality 12/1 shot right now.
Wicked Strong is a fan favourite on the east coast and he very nearly won the Travers Stakes at Saratoga, often referred to as the midsummer Derby. He is trading alongside Will Take Charge at a 12/1 price and he will get a nice break before opting for the Classic. He has had a long season and is still yet to tangle against older horses but you can expect him to put in another good shift here.
Game On Dude is regarded by many as a bit of a spent force as of late, having won the Santa Anita Handicap in convincing fashion back in March but then sputtering in his last few races. He is generally deployed on the lead and is the winningest horse on the California circuit right now but many have been turned off by his up-and-down form over the past few months. He is trading at 14/1 whereas many expected him to be a betting favourite for this race at the start of the year.
