One of the others to keep your eye on is the Steve Asmussen-trained Tapiture, who had other options going into the race and could have run in the Classic but the dirt mile (a weaker race by a good distance) loomed as the easier scalp for team Asmussen. He is trading at a 6/1 margin and will likely feature as a wise guy play on opening day of the Breeders’ Cup for at least a certain percentage of the crowd on hand.
Keep your eyes peeled for Ken Ramsey and his charge Vicars In Trouble as they look to capture another elusive Breeders’ Cup race and, surely, his first-call jockey Rosie Napravnik will be in the irons on the day. Plenty of action and excitement are awaiting in this race and the son of Kitten’s Joy looms as a very interesting play with an 11/1 price tag at the moment with European books.
Another to keep your eye on is George & Lori Hall’s Pants On Fire, who has been good in races like these and continues to put together a good string of performances despite getting on in years. Kelly Breen’s charge has shipped out from his home base at Monmouth Park and will continue training well. Look for him at a 14/1 margin alongside Carve - who trades at an identical price tag with most major bookmakers.
Bronzo rounds out the field with a 20/1 price tag in Europe.
With Goldencents the likely winner of the race, you will see plenty of action in the exotic wagering markets with the exacta play looking like you will see a few punters wheeling him over top of the field. Truth be told, it may make more sense to wheel him on the bottom and root against him as he is drawn inside of another horse who will look to run a very similar race.
Additionally, expect Goldencents to be a key selection in multirace wagers and things will get blown wide open should he lose the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
