Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on October 31, 2014 04:47 GMTSome of the best female contenders from Europe are going to be contesting the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and you can count on this being one of the most fascinating races of the Saturday card even though it’s not usually considered a marquee race. The forecast in sunny Southern California actually calls for a rare instance of rain and the weather sites show a 40% chance of rain that could soften up the rock hard Santa Anita turf course.

As it currently stands, most punters seem to be thinking that Dank is the one to beat here but there hasn’t really been a lot of buzz about her aside from the bookmakers considering her the choice.
Despite her winning the race last year, she’s not had much luck in her two efforts earlier this season - she finished third behind Just A Way in the Dubai Duty Free and then a disappointing fifth in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot. While there isn’t much shame in hitting the board against the #1 ranked horse in the world, her finish behind the Fugue and Magician definitely leaves the doors open for improvement here.
It’s difficult to justify the 2.75 price tag current on offer after those two contests and the race has come up a bit deeper this year than it was during its 2013 iteration.
Stephanie’s Kitten is the second choice here and the 5.50 price available right now is said to be a great one by American punters who only have access to the pari-mutuel wagering pools. She has emerged as one of the best American turf fillies and is a feather in the cap of her sire Kitten’s Joy who has thrown a significant amount of excellent foals who are amazing on a variety of surfaces.
She was last seen capturing the Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont when she deployed a stalking trip as opposed to her usual come-from-behind late flourish.
