Breeders Cup Classic Betting Preview Part 2

Dullahan had been co-entered for the Breeders' Cup Turf and may still opt for that race. He qualifies automatically for this race having beaten Game On Dude, Richard's Kid and the rest of the west coast's best older horses (aside from Acclamation) in the Pacific Classic. His late-running style was executed perfectly by Joel Rosario on the day, overcoming a front-end bias and setting a new track record. It's a fact made all the more impressive by him going 5w into the lane.

The switch from Desmormeaux to Rosario paid dividends and, though he was lacklustre on turf in the Jamaica, many expect him to get the genuine pace that he needs from this particular race. Though it's obvious that he's a synthetic freak, a Classic win may not be beyond Dullahan if he gets the right surface under foot and the right amount of speed to aim at.

Bookmakers have Dullahan trading as the second favourite in the Classic behind Game On Dude, with many listing him as low as 7/1 though there are a few pricing him at 10/1.

Flat Out is an interesting horse that really looks to have come into his own during the second half os 2012. A high-profile win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup was his just desserts after two game efforts in the Whitney and the Monmouth Cup. Switched over to Bill Mott's yard prior to the Monmouth date, he's done well under Rosie Napravnik and will likely get her for the race as Rosario is seemingly booked to Dullahan.

From an overall speed perspective, this horse definitely looks the business and he put in a sharp 5f workout over the Belmont training track three days ago, breezing it in a minute flat. Mott's loaded and he's hitting 18% alone with shipper – in the money at 47%. This is definitely one to have in your exotics and Bet365 somehow still has this horse trading at 16/1.

Fort Larned is a bit of an upstart that emerged off the Tampa Circuit earlier this year. With figures in the 113 range and a quality stalker/alternator style, he has the ability to make a big statement in this one if he can get it right on the day. He's never been campaigned on the west coast and it will be interesting to see how he handles Santa Anita. His last race came a few weeks off a freshening and he did look a bit flat so many will be expecting him to put in a good shift this time out.

You'll find him hovering around the 12/1 corridor.

The final one we'll be taking a look at today is the betting choice Game On Dude, who lines up for west coast trainer Bob Baffert. This guy has been bet down to 9/4 now that he's retained the services of Rafael Bejarano for the mount, a switch that likely prompted the end of Chantal Sutherland's career. Though he was beaten by Dullahan (a race in which Chantal dropped a reign towards the finish line) he was able to bounce back and win the Awesome Again Stakes, a Grade 1 event, on the opening weekend of the Santa Anita fall meet.

His front running style is perfectly suited to the surface and this is a de facto home game for The Dude. He's said to be a bit vulnerable at the 1m2f distance and might not be able to last the trip if he gets pressed early and Rafael can't ration out his speed effectively. He'll be going off anywhere from even money to 5/2.
