California Chrome Set For Triple Crown Glory Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on May 18, 2014 23:12 GMTPunters got a genuine glimpse of Danza’s ability when he triumphed at a whopping 41/1 in the Arkansas Derby to seal his credentials for America’s first Classic race - which happened a matter of weeks later. Whether that was a one-shot deal or not, the fact remains that he will be fresh for Belmont.

The other really big story coming into the 2014 Belmont is Ride On Curlin - the only horse aside from California Chrome who looks likely to tackle all three Triple Crown races. The son of Preakness winner Curlin was able to finish the race well - but was absolutely all out to capture second place with California Chrome appearing to have things wrapped up shortly after they came around the turn for home.
Bookmakers have floated Ride On Curlin at a very interesting price of 6/1, but it is very likely that he will go off higher on the American tote board. Considering the fact that it’s an ante post wager, it is likely not worth the money at this point as the horse may wind up not making the Belmont anyway.
Kentucky Derby runner-up Commanding Curve will be back for the Belmont and many are expecting his late-closing style to bring him into serious contention for the race. One of the longest shots on the board on Derby day, the West Point Thoroughbreds-owned contender will also be rested and ready for his next shot at California Chrome. You’ll find him trading around 8/1 at the moment.
Tonalist can be backed at a 9/1 price while popular runner Wicked Strong is likely to see plenty of volume at his 10/1 listing that will likely come down as we get closer to the Belmont Stakes. Another fan-favourite is New York-based Samraat who was considered by many to be a “wiseguy” option for the Kentucky Derby and ran a credible race, despite being interfered with at some points and not getting his best chance.
Look for California Chrome to continue shining as brightly as ever with his fantastic story capturing the hearts of a nation - and hopefully putting a few dollars in its pocket as well.
