Camelot Holding at 1/3 for 2012 St Leger Part 1

The date with destiny for Camelot is drawing closer by the day as the 2012 St Leger is nearly upon us. As Aidan O'Brien's charge prepares to tackle the final leg of the British Triple Crown, his ante post price continues to hold at an extremely short 1/3 with a number of major bookmakers. Some have him floating at 2/5 while others price him closer to 4/11.

It is impossible to find a price of 1/2 though there is a chance of a drift on race-day, though that would take some specifically adverse conditions underfoot as Camelot has shown the ability to handle several different types of ground.

Undefeated in five starts and with a very impressive score in the Irish Derby seeing him get bet down to 1/5, it's obvious that this three-year-old son of Montjeu is the real deal – at a wide variety of distances.

While he's gotten the best of nearly every contender in the race already, more than a few talented horses step up to challenge him in what looks to be the final prep for many before Champions Day. Main Sequence is getting a good portion of the attention and punters will find him priced out at around 7/1 with most major bookmakers.

He's rated at 115 now and, though he's not won since May, will be able to express himself at the distance thanks to some high-quality performances against the top-class colts of his generation.

Main Sequence mustered a fourth place finish in the Juddmonte Grand Prix De Paris at Longchamp but the result is actually better than it might look on paper. He was running on strongly and had to check twice on the run-in. The race summary for him has a very prominent final world – unlucky.

It's one thing to say that a second place horse was unlucky, but when they finish fourth (a length and a half off the winner) you have to admit that horse had traffic trouble.

If Main Sequence gets a clear run on Camelot, then it could get interesting.
