Cheltenham Festival Each-Way Betting Preview Pt 3

Look for Double Ross around 14/1 with most major bookmakers - this puts him right up in the mix and, though he has entries for other races, this is likely to be where he winds up as Nigel Twiston-Davies can place his horses well and will be looking to pay the bills not make headlines with this horse.

There are no genuine stand-out contenders in the Byrne Group and it is sort of a catch-all race for horses who are Grade 3 or Grade 2 winners who aren’t really at the top of their game. Double Ross eats jumpers like that for breakfast and we expect him to romp home by some distance if he gets the ground he wants.

We’ve also got our eye on undefeated Modus for the 2014 Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival and he was last seen destroying a field of ten to win an 11k bumper over course and distance by a whopping 13 length margin. Sent off at a 5/1 price on the day, he has a lot to look forward to and showed a real solid cruising speed and the ability to quicken well on command.

He showed that type of panache in a much lesser race at Exeter to kick off his career and he comes into this one with every chance in the grand scheme of things. Bumpers can be weird races but this four-year-old son of Motivator has just that much more speed than some others do and his stamina is that of a horse more mature than he. Expect him to have grown a bit from that last race.

Look for Modus anywhere around 10/1 right now and there is a good probability that he goes off at a much shorter price on the day. Black Hercules is the Irish raider who comes in for Willy Mullins and he’s the 13/2 betting favourite right now in what looks to be a lukewarm bumper market.
