The 2013 Jewson Novices’ Chase still has 65 runners in the mix and looks likely to be a very interesting puzzle to solve once we get closer to festival time. There are some really good contenders in the mix here and a solid selection of jumpers are set to push this one 2m4f over timber.

This race can be a tricky one from an ante post standpoint because a lot of the more talented contenders here carry cross-entries for at least one other race. Several of the key selections here are nominated for three different races at the festival so there are plenty of options here.
Keeping your ear to the street and staying tuned to the latest racing news is probably your best bet to ensure extra value on the Jewson.
Dynaste is the early betting favourite at a 5/2 price and that’s likely because he’s been pointed towards this race for a while. He’s had three efforts this year - all winning ones and he really looks to have turned a corner now that he’s taking on fences as opposed to getting creamed by Big Buck’s over hurdles time and time again.
He took the Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and really declared himself in the mix for this race. Novice Chases don’t tend to pay a huge amount except for a select few Grade 1’s so he really should be looking good for this race, despite winning some lower-purse events.
Captain Conan is the second betting favourite in this race and he’s also won all three of his efforts this year. A score at Cheltenham on his seasonal and Chase debut while he then followed it up with a pair of scores at Sandown. Most of those wins came against relatively slim groups of competitors so it will be interesting to see how he fares in a bigger group.
