Cheltenham Preview Supreme Novices Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on January 27, 2014 01:19 GMTHis biggest challenge at this point looks to be the mighty Irving, who is now 3/3 over hurdles since switching over from the low-level handicap flat circuit. He’s formed a winning partnership with Nick Schofield and is looking like a potential stand-out in the Paul Nicholls yard. He has taken money in all three of his victories so far this year - two coming at Ascot and the first one at Taunton.

The most recent of those victories was a Grade 2 effort at Ascot when he triumphed over a field of six by a six length margin. His jumping isn’t quite as fluent as one would like but he still learning the ropes. His ability to quicken on command at the business end of a race is very impressive, however, and he will have no issue getting this distance at full flight - even with less than favourable ground.
Irving trades as a general 11.0 shot with many UK-based bookmakers.
Another one to take a serious look at is the six-year-old son of Oscar named The Tullow Tank. He has rattled off three victories in a row this season and has also captured a pair of Grade 1 victories - one at Fairyhouse and the other at Leopardstown during the holiday fixtures.
He was able to draw clear on the run-in in that most recent victory - the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle. Romping home by a full eight lengths after tracking the leaders the entire way, Danny Mullins was able to deliver The Tullow Tank at a 9/4 price that would have pleased a number of punters. Moyle Park had been sent off as the 6/5 favourite for Willy Mullins with Ruby Walsh up, but he could only muster up a third place finish as King Of The Picts was able to get second by a solid margin at a 33/1 price.
The Tullow Tank can be backed around 10/1 with most major bookmakers.
Moyle Park himself, a six-year-old son of Flemensfirth, saw his stock take a bit of a hit with that loss and he has drifted out considerably. He can be found anywhere from 25/1 to 14/1.
