Darley Classic Betting Tips at Flemington PT 1

The best flat race happening on the planet on Saturday is likely kicking off very early in the morning for UK-based punters as the Darley Classic happens at Flemington with a very established group of runners set to tackle the 6f sprint in hopes of securing a big money prize payout.

The betting favourite heading into the race is Chautaqua, who has been looking really good in his last few races - having come off a four month freshening to win two in a row at Flemington - both by impressive margins. He was sent off as the favourite each time and he looks likely to continue his winning ways here if the markets are to be believed.

The bookmakers have priced Chautaqua at a slim 6/4 which might be a bit too short against a field boasting this much quality and several international superstars who have shipped in to take him on. If he can replicate that four-length victory that he put together at Flemington in early October then he’s going to be tough to catch here as he was able to dispose of a very solid field when carrying top weight and still romping home and making the other contestants in the race look ordinary.

The two co-favourites in second place are likely to be his main challengers and the one to keep your eyes on here is the legendary Slade Power who has rattled off a steady stream of three wins in a row - two of which came at Group 1 level. He has been off since the July Meeting at Newmarket and now reemerges in Australia looking to put his competition to the sword here.

It’s going to be important for Slade Power to be properly positioned to make his trademark move where he finds that additional gear about one furlong from the finish line. He’ll be in tight here amongst a few others who have a similar style but Wayne Lordan has travelled to ride him so you can expect them to continue their excellent partnership that has seen them take on competition all over the world.
