Dubai World Cup Day Best Bets Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on March 27, 2014 16:56 GMTThe Dubai World Cup race itself is a very difficult puzzle to decipher - as it always is - but this year the sizable Asian contingent has made things even more tricky as you have a lot of overlapping globetrotting form here as well. It’s notable that some horses that probably could have had a run in this race opted for some of the other contests on the card as they would likely appear to be a lot more winnable than this massive field of excellent runners.

Military Attack has started to gain momentum in the build-up to the race with a price dropping from 7/1 to 13/2 right now and looking more and more likely by the hour to begin picking up steam ahead of the big contest on Saturday. He will likely be a bit shorter in the UK markets but with the absence of a stand-out American challenger here you can assume that their money will be a bit more spread out in the American pools.
Ruler of the World is getting an awful lot of attention now that we have seen the acquisition announcement from the Al Shaqqab outfit in Qatar. It is very interesting that he will race in the Al Shaqqab colors just for the Dubai World Cup and you reckon it could be another massive feather in the cap of Sheikh Joann if they can pull this one off on the day.
Since the actual dollar figure was not announced, you have to assume that it’s going to be a very significant figure, particularly since it includes stud rights. Right now, he is available at a 4/1 price tag ahead of the race and punters will be piling on this Saturday so if you’re going to back him it’s probably worth doing it now. He is a justifiable favourite but a lot of it depends on the actual shape of the race - and with the rain having fallen at Meydan this week you do have to wonder just exactly how things will be playing on Saturday - particularly later on in the card after several contests will have already been run.
Both Akeed Mofeed and Prince Bishop are likely to have a lot of punters asking questions about whether they will actually be able to reproduce some of the scintillating performances that they have flashed over the past few months. Akeed Mofeed put in a stellar performance to defeat Military Attack in Hong Kong last year and there is every chance that this race could wind up being an entirely different story.
Jockey quality is always a big aspect of things at Meydan - particularly on Dubai World Cup day. Though Jose Rosario and Animal Kingdom proved last year that you don’t need to be a resident jockey in order to take the big race, it’s important to have knowledge of the course and how races at Meydan tend to be run.
