Dubai World Cup Day Betting Preview PT 1

There is plenty of excitement ahead of us on Saturday at Meydan racecourse in Dubai as the world’s richest race is set to unfold along with a stellar card of racing that brings together top level thoroughbreds from all four corners of the world. The surface that the World Cup will be contested over is back to dirt and it’s going to be fascinating to see how the cadre of American shippers will do taking on the horses that have raced throughout the spring carnival, in addition to the hotshot European and Asian contenders.

The Godolphin Mile is looking like one of the biggest lopsided races of the day with Tamarkuz looming as the significant 5/4 favourite at this point. The Speightstown chestnut has rattled off three victories in a row - two of which came at Grade 3 level - and was only defeated three-quarters of a length by Faulkner on his seasonal debut back in January.

Sheikh Hamdan’s horse has plenty of momentum coming into this but will need to be

sharp as this is not a weak group. The one to watch out for here might be 20/1 Dark Emerald, who has not finished outside of the top two in each of his four attempts over the Meydan surface.

He was only beaten a length last time to Safety Check as he took a step up to Grade 2 level and that’s a very respectable result for this five-year-old gelding as he has moved forward considerably over a surface that he seems to take to with aplomb.

Michael Owen’s Brown Panther headlines the Dubai Gold Cup and trades as the ante post favourite with a 7/2 listing right now in a much more open race than the Godolphin Mile. The globetrotting stayer will be making his seasonal debut in this race after running poorly at the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita back in November.

He famously bolted in the post parade at Woodbine about a month before but many seem to be quite confident in the ability of this seven-year-old son of Shirocco.
