Fascinating Champion Hurdle Set to Unfold Pt 1

The ante post wagering for the 2014 Champion Hurdle is looking like a very interesting affair an we have a sensational show-down between the top two ante post contenders looming, along with a few outside shots that come into the race with lots of form and could very well hit the line first, themselves. With virtually all major bookmakers placing The New One and Hurricane Fly on absolutely equal footing, it’s going to be really interesting to see where the wagering goes from here in the ante post markets.

The way it looks right now, a few bookmakers have Hurricane Fly listed just a point shorter than The New One and that’s likely because the six-year-old son of King’s Theatre was beaten last time by My Tent Or Yours, though only by a half-length, but it came on such a large stage that everybody stood up and took notice.

While The New One had never been seen as some sort of unbeatable Big Buck’s style contender, it really was a knock back on him that he wasn’t able to topple that group in the Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle.

The fact that My Tent Or Yours was able to get to him on equal weight was an even bigger stroke against him, but at the end of the day you still have to remember that this horse has not finished outside of the top two since he ran in the Champion Bumper at the 2012 Festival (ten races ago!). It’s also worth noting his Cheltenham record - conquering four from six races and looking good each time out.

Hurricane Fly has been on the seen much longer and is the absolute class of his division and he’ll be looking for an amazing tenth winning race on the bounce here. He was beaten by Rock On Ruby in this very race back in 2012 and he’s been able to get the job done on the return trip at Punchestown every year as well so if you can back him on the ante post double that would be a really solid call.

Even when he lost the Champion Hurdle to Rock On Ruby a few years back, he still went back to Punchestown to destroy the Rabobank Champion Hurdle.
