9/1 on Grumeti will likely interest plenty of punters as the Grade 1 winner of the 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree. With a price nearing double digits making him a very comfortable each-way selection. He followed up that over hurdles with a winning effort on the flat at Ascot then coming in second at Goodwood in a Class 2 handicap. He missed the bulk of last season and only came back to run disappointingly in a Grade 2 at Ayr, finishing 4/5 despite going off as the joint betting favourite. If he can channel some of those excellent runs of old then he’s bang in form and deserves plenty of respect. 

You reckon that they wouldn’t have run Grumeti in a Grade 1 like this contest if he wasn’t genuinely up for it. He will enjoy every bit of the 2m contest but, like many others here, will be making his Newcastle debut so it’s worth seeing how that goes. 

Duke of Navan has been laid off since mid-February and makes his reappearance here in what looks to be by far the best race of his entire career. He might be in the mix here for a top 3 finish and you get the feeling that’s what connections are banking on as well.

He is 16/1 as we head into the race but might factor into a couple of forecast wagers with My Tent Or Yours. He boasts a victory at Newcastle, albeit in a 2k novice hurdle in 2012. He tends to win when taking money but doesn’t seem to win unless he’s the second choice. A tricky horse to wager on but one that could surprise with a best-ever effort. 

Cotton Mill lines up for John Ferguson’s yard and doesn’t look like he’s going to inspire too much excitement. He hasn’t won since January of 2012, though it should be noted that it came in a Grade 2 contest.
