Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips and Preview Pt 1

We are just about to kick off Glorious Goodwood and some of the best flat racing of the summer season is now finally upon us. We have a stellar line-up of contests set to unfold over the next couple of days and you can bank on the perennial feature contests like the Sussex Stakes and the Nassau Stakes continuing to intrigue.

The race for top jockey at Goodwood is always an interesting wager and this year it looks like an absolute dead-heat between Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes with the bookmakers floating both of them at 2.25 prices to win more races than anybody else at the chic racing event. 

The odds then take a considerable jump to 15.0 for Joe Fanning while Paul Hanagan trades at an identical price. William Buick is a 21.0 shot while Silvestre De Sousa, who has been riding well as of late, is a lengthy 21.0. 

The Qipco Sussex Stakes is a very interesting race with a short field. Kingman looms as the 1/2 favourite with most major bookmakers and looks set to continue his excellent run of form that has seen him lose only once this year during his four attempts. The winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James’ Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot will be looking for his third Group 1 contest on the bounce and he has gone off as the betting favourite in each of his races this year. 

Toronado looks to be the main challenger and he has only been out once this year, finishing about three-quarters of a length in front of Verrazano in the Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot. He put in some great shifts last year and the four-year-old son of High Chaparral looks like he really could kick on and produce something here for his Al Shaqab connections.
