Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase Betting Tips Part 2

Punters will find Cue Card available at a very reasonable 11/4 price tag - though any will likely favour the improving Captain Chris if they are opting for a shorter odds selection in this one.

Finian’s Rainbow is the other leading fancy for this race and the ante post punters have him backed down to a relatively slim 3/1. There isn’t a huge amount between the three leading contenders and one does have to wonder whether the jocks will be under orders to fully extend each of their charges as the connections will surely have their eyes on the much bigger prizes come Festival time.

Finian’s Rainbow has only had one outing so far this year and it was definitely a disappointing one - he was sent off as the 5/6 favourite against Captain Chris in his seasonal debut at Ascot. He finished 4/4 and was 24 lengths off the pace with Barry Geraghty in the irons.

The winner of last year’s Queen Mother Champion Chase, who got the better of Sizing Europe in the process, has a lot to do here to prove that he’s in just as good a form as ever. Connections have clearly pointed him at this race as his Cheltenham prep but it must be mentioned that he doesn’t exactly have the best of lifetime records at Ascot itself.

Somersby seems to be the main spoiler here outside of the top 3 and he’s trading at a solid 5/1. He doesn’t exactly boast the best recent record and is really more of a there-or-thereabouts runner. His last victory was against Finian’s Rainbow last January in the Victor Chandler Chase - a race that came over the Ascot surface.

Ghizao is one who had lots of expectations on him a year or two ago but has fizzled out considerably. His last actual score came at Kempton last November in a Class 2 Chase for 10K. He has hit the board in a pair of Grade 2’s but will need a lot more to tangle with this type of company. He remains at single digits but will be closer to 16s on Saturday afternoon unless he makes a very nice pre-race appearance.

Pigeon Island is the other contender and he looks to be competing for place money more than anything else at this point with his only score of note being a victory in a Class 3 Handicap Chase at Uttoexeter last September. He trades at 66/1.
