This race is especially appealing when you consider just how much money is up for grabs when the betting favourite in the ante post market is a hefty 9/1 price tag and likely to drift once others make more solid declarations.
At 3m2f this is one of the longer contests early on in the season and you can expect a top class selection of staying chases to make an attempt at this one. There are some well-established names ready to line up for this one along with a few you may not recognize but who certainly have a chance, all things considered.
Invictus is the current betting favourite and he is priced at a solid 9/1 in most ante post markets. Its more of a threshold thing than anything else that he isn’t found anywhere at a general 10/1. There are plenty of question marks over top of his overall ability as the best he has ever been able to muster has been a Grade 2 score over Bobs Worth back at Ascot in mid-February of 2012. Having been off the course for so long you have to wonder just how he’s going to fare when running against a few contenders who are bang in form and have already had a run or two so far this year.
Obviously, you respect Alan King’s decision to enter him in the race but you wonder why they are maxing out on distance this early in his campaign - either they think he has absolutely every chance or they have their eye on a longer run at some point this year? It’s a legitimate question and you have to wonder just whereabouts he’s going to end up if he actually makes it to festival time.
