Hennessy Gold Cup Betting Preview Pt 2

Tidal Bay is currently available at an 14/1 price for the Hennessy Gold Cup and looks good value for money provided he’s not pointed towards the King George instead of this one. There is just enough time in between runs that he could potentially fit in both but you reckon that, at this point, it could be one or the other. The option at Kempton sees him trading at a 16/1 listing for that one amidst a significantly more competitive market so you reckon they may want to make some money with him and opt for the easier race instead of attempting to hit the board somewhere else.

The twelve-year-old son of Flemensfirth isn’t getting any younger and they will be looking for his best campaign ever with this one. He got things off to a fantastic start when he captured a Grade 2 contest at Wetherby to kick off his campaign this seaosn. He had been unraced since capturing the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown last year around Christmas time and he’ll be looking to move forward off that last effort with plenty of run left in him.

Imperial Commander is very much in the mix for this one and he’s back in with a chance at a 15/1 price tag with most major bookmakers. He is sure to have Paddy Brennan in the irons once again and could be fantastic value after disappointing many in the Grand National when he was pulled up at Beecher’s just when things were starting to get especially interesting for the Nigel Twiston-Davies trainee.

He won the Betfair Chase but hasn’t really done much since his big win in the Cheltenham Gold Cup back in 2010 when he triumphed over Denman. Pulled up a  few times, the best race of his season last year was a second place in a prep at Cheltenham back in late January of 2013. Much more is expected of this contender in 2013/14 and connections will be looking to make back some of the money they’ve spent during his lay-ups to keep him going.

Imperial Commander has proven that he can tackle anything thrown at him on his day but you have to respect that he is up against a very salty cast of characters if he opts for the Hennessy.
