Hennessy Gold Cup Betting Preview Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on January 20, 2014 01:01 GMTCloudy Too lines up for Sue Smith’s yard and he’s also looking at his fourth contest of the year, though he has two wins from three efforts. His last outing was on Boxing Day at Wetherby when he captured the Grade 3 Rowland Meryck Handicap Chase. He was able to beat out the respected Tullamore Dew in that contest and was carrying 11-0. He was sent off at an 11/4 margin that day and looked good for the run - definitely dispelling any negative thoughts punters may have had after seeing his disappointing run at Newbury in the Hennessy Gold Cup Chase (the other one).

He finished 12/21 that day and was sent off at 20/1 - this is a horse that tends to do well when the punters send him off at a relatively short price tag. He has victories at 11/4, 4/1 and 9/2 during 2013.
Willy Mullins saddles Boston Bob and that’s definitely going to be one to watch and you will reckon he’s going to be taking some substantial support from the local punters who will be looking to go against the English raiders in this contest. Perfectly positioned just about 5 weeks out from Cheltenham.
He has only been out once this year - winning a relatively weak handicap at Punchestown by a massive ten length margin when sent off at an 8/11 listing with Ruby Walsh in the irons. He had boasted an excellent record for most of his career - never finishing off the board in his first 9 races. However, he fell in the RSA Chase when he looked to have the race completely wrapped up. He fell at the last when he was at least a length ahead of the opposition and it’s worth noting that he also fell at Punchestown just over a month later in the Growise Novice Champion Chase.
He has proven that he can tangle on the regular chasing circuit but it’s still up in the air weather he can handle Grade 1 contenders like Tidal Bay and some of the others who are entered here.
It’s clear that Mullins has his eye on a big race at Cheltenham for Boston Bob and if he can pull off an impressive result here (hitting the board, perhaps) then he’ll likely be one to watch come festival time as this is only his second effort of the season.
