Of these three, only Zarkandar remains undefeated this season, with the most impressive being a score at Cheltenham over course and distance when he won by two lengths against Gradouet, who has been viewed as a bit of a Cheltenham specialist in the past.

Expect Zarkdandar to stay pretty close to Hurricane Fly in this one as they both tend to prefer a stalking trip behind the leaders. Hurricane Fly has shown the ability to get right on the lead if Ruby thinks that it’s the best way to go considering the pace scenario. Getting the right type of trip is important for this type of race and the shorter distance makes it very difficult to recover from any genuine mistakes.
Binocular is also in the mix for this one and he’s getting us into each way territory at a 14/1 listing. Not long ago, he was one of the most high-profile runners at this distance but he has gone off the boil a bit in recent years but was able to get the better of Rock On Ruby at Kempton on Boxing Day back in 2011. He’s only been out once this season and was stuffed by Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown.
Cinders and Ashes was a big Cheltenham winner last year but was easily handled in both of his outings this year - losing the pair by a combined 24 lengths. He’s also priced at 14/1 and looks to have it all do. He may enjoy getting back to Cheltenham and looks set to reward punters at a solid price if he can get a shock victory. He was a great novice but doesn’t look to have adapted to the higher level as well as you would like.
Countrywide Flame finished second to Rock On Ruby at Doncaster the other week and he’s a 14/1 shot as well. He has been campaigned in some pretty good races - notably winning three other runners in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle. He’s had five outings already this season and has been there-or-thereabouts in each of them. Look for him to be part of the equation here if he gets the right type of trip.
40/1 Raya Star is the choice out of all the longshots while Rebel Fiyz looks capable of getting a victory here as well and is also worth each-way consideration.
