Should either of the leading ante post choices get the win it will represent a substantial coup for this particular generation of colts.
Field of Dream lines up with Adam Kirby again booked for the mount and this pair combined last time out on July 13 when they captured a race at this exact same level at Newmarket by a full length over Es Que Love, who is also on tap to run in this outing. Delivering at a price of 14/1 last time out, you’ll find them trading at 12/1 here in most ante post markets and looking likely to take a further amount of money on the day.
It’s also worth taking a look at Lightning Cloud, an accomplished five-year-old with 19 races under his belt and fresh off his first victory since September of 2011 when he captured a Class 2 Handicap at Ascot over a salty field of 27. He has demonstrated a prowess at the quirky 7f distance and, racing on the stands side, he was able to run on strongly when it mattered most and you do have to like that he’s had about a month to freshen up a bit.
Neil Callan is again booked for the mount and it appears as though the pair could be poised to begin forging a quality partnership on the handicap circuit though it does have to be acknowledged that this is a step up in quality compared to the last effort.
Other interesting contenders tend to be towards the top of the handicap with many of them a bit out of form having won some solid contests a few races back and not getting any breaks from the handicapper this time out. Prince of Johanne is interesting and trades at a competitive 16/1 after capturing a Class 2 at Sandown.
