King George Day at Ascot Betting Preview PT 4

Prior to that fifth place run he was able to rattle off a succession of three victories in a row from his seasonal debut, gradually rising in class each time. He has already beaten quite a few who are already in the mix here. We also have Bushcraft ranking as a second choice here and he’s emerged from relatively humble beginnings but looks like he could really make a breakthrough here on his first step up to the Heritage Handicap circuit. He has never finished outside of the top 3 in his entire career and has won 5 from 7 lifetime races.

He has been sent off as the betting favourite each time in every race except for his career debut so you can assume that he should be able to make the big step up and deal with the massive field he has to contend with. He has shown the ability to win just on his skill but in races like this you need a little luck too.

The feature contest comes up at 3:50 and Golden Horn’s price is now out to evens with most major bookmakers following the announcement that rain is in the forecast and he might not actually run. The big market mover has supposedly been Clever Cookie who lines up with Graham Lee booked for the trip.

Only a Group 3 winner but with plenty of handicap victories, this one could be set for a famous performance if he was to get the better of Golden Horn, who is one of the highest rated English horses in quite some time. He’s a 9/1 shout right now and that price tag could drop as the buzz builds about his ability to handle the ground that could emerge as quite testing if the moisture comes.

Eagle Top ranks as a strong contender here and boasts sharep form at Ascot with a victory over Adelaide last year and a second place in the Hardwicke Stakes this year to Snow Sky. He was only able to finish fourth last year but he did take a fair amount of money so expect him to emerge as the potential spoiler here if you’re looking to go against Golden Horn but also think that Clever Cookie is simply taking too big of a step up in grade.

Following that we have a tricky betting experience in the lady amateur riders chase the 7f Longines Handicap. Peril ranks as the clear betting favourite but only with a 7/2 margin here on the back of a recent victory at Wolverhampton. Katie Walsh is piloting Kakatosi and could make a breakthrough here with some decent recent form and a few previous efforts at Ascot.

The nightcap is the Canisbay Bloodstock Handicap and we’ve only got six runners in the mix here with Plane Song looming as the 7/4 favourite for the outright victory here against this limited field. You’ll also find Magical Thomas looming as an interesting outside contender as well in a race that looks a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the card.
