King George Day at Kempton Preview PT 2

The 1:25 is a Class 3 handicap chase going 2m4f110y and there are a few in here who could take this one. With Stellar Notion boasting a very solid recent record and looking likely to kick on in the coming races, Paddy Brennan’s mount will take some beating here and if it’s to happen we will likely be looking at top weight River Maigue who has the effective Henderson/Geraghty combo working in his favour.

McCoy gets Knock House and it’s an interesting choice as he was well-beaten at Cheltenham in a novice chase by a full thirty eight lengths when sent off at 7/1 in a field of five. Prior to that he had scored on his seasonal debut at Fakenham. Clearly faced with other options here, one has to respect the choice of the top jockey in the race and it should be noted that he boasts the second-highest official rating, coming just behind the misfiring Katgary.

The 2:00 is the Kauto Star Novices Chase and we have a pair of Paul Nicholls entries who would like nothing more than to win the race for their trainer who conditioned the aforementioned National Hunt legend. Virak enters the race looking for his fourth victory on the bounce and he looks likely to make a statement here, having just captured at Grade 2 contest and now taking on a salty group that includes stablemate Saphir Du Rheu, who many are looking at for festival honours.

He unseated his rider in his first effort of the season - a Grade 2 chase at Newbury, which disappointed punters who sent him off as the 11/10 betting choice. Falling at the seventh fence, it would have been especially frustrating to have backed him as he raced keenly and looked likely to factor heavily in the reckoning. He got things back on track fairly easily at Exeter next out though, triumphing by a full eleven lengths in a weaker novice chase and going off even shorter at 4/5.

In the 2:35 it’s awfully hard to look past Faugheen so many will likely be including him in their multirace wagers though one would reckon there will be more than a few placing a spoiler bet on Irving or even Sign Of A Victory if they are feeling especially creative.

Faugheen ran in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot back in late November and was easily much the best with a slim price of 1/4 coming out of the gate. He pulled off a fantastic double last year during the festival period and will be looking to make a big statement as the major factor in jumps racing of the season.
