King George Day at Kempton Preview PT 3
- By A.J. But there are a few interesting options in here that could spring a surprise or be ready to capitalize on any mistakes made by the leading contenders.

Obviously, beyond the Nicholls entry, Champagne Fever is the one to watch as he trades as high as 7/2. He picked up a Grade 2 victory at Clonmel just a few weeks ago and he traded at 8/11 for the big race. He came in second at the Cheltenham Festival last year to Western Warhorse by a head in the Arkle Chase. With Ruby Walsh coming back aboard here, you can expect him to get a better ride than what we’ve seen in previous efforts so keep your eye peeled on him prior to the race.
In the Amlin Chase, we saw what Al Ferof can really do - as he romped home by a full seven lengths. It’s telling that Ruby chooses Champagne Fever after piloting him to that traded victory. He came third in this race last year to Silviniaco Conti and will be looking to improve here. With a price hovering around 6/1 with most major bookmakers, he’s not exactly each-way material but does have a chance of winning if his stablemate just isn’t up to it.
Dynaste, Menorah and Cue Card are all hovering around 8/1 and they look good as interesting outside options. Menorah tends to hit the board and Cue Card is perhaps just not looking sharp enough to back at that price.
Double Ross is always worth a look for the place bet and he’s a 50/1 shout right now. He has an odd ability to hit the board even when he’s outmatched so expect a good run from him.
In the 3:45 we have twelve contenders having a go and the early betting favourite is Alternatif, who lines up for David Pipe’s yard. He’ll be getting Tom Scudamore and will be looking to improve on his last two efforts, which saw him finish third both times. This will be his first effort since running in France and they have obviously targeted this race as his seasonal debut with an eye on festival time, surely.
