King George VI Chase Betting Preview Pt 1

We have now officially entered the first declaration stage for the massive boxing day National Hunt fixture at Kempton and there are few who could be more excited about the race that Paul Nicholls who has four runners pre-entered for this contest. Every contender is set to carry 11 stone 10 lbs and there is a relatively impressive disparity in between the ratings with virtually all of the top 3m chasers listed in the mix along with a few upstart selections who may wind up being pointed elsewhere but are still looking to retain the option of a King George run.

Bobs Worth enters the race as the most highly rated entrant boasting a massive 180

on the heels of his Gold Cup triumph last year. He has been unraced since then and will be opting for the King George instead of contesting any of the Grade 2 3m chases as connections have opted to skip the prep race with him.

Prior to his Gold Cup win last year you saw him opt for the Hennessy Gold Cup Chase at Newbury on the first weekend of December and there was a lot to like about that effort and it paid dividends for all who backed him ante post as he delivered on the big day of the festival in the penultimate race - absconding by 7 lengths on the run-in to triumph over Sir Des Champs, Long Run and the Giant Bolster.

Nicky Henderson’s talented eight-year-old was able to get things taken care of in a big way at Cheltenham the previous year when he captured the RSA Chase. It should be noted that his Kempton form doesn’t match his Cheltenham prowess by any stretch of the imagination and punters were disappointed in his third place finish to Grands Crus when he contested the Feltham Novices Chase back on the King George card of December 2011.

It really is an impressive run of form at Festival time when you realize that Bobs Worth will be going for his fourth Cheltenham title in as many years, having captured the Albert Bartlett’s when he was contesting novice hurdles back in 2011, then taking the RSA, then the Gold Cup and now coming back for, seemingly, another kick at the can.
