King George VI Chase Betting Tips Pt 1
- By A.J. Ryder on December 19, 2013 22:03 GMTAs we get closer and closer to Christmas Day it is also common knowledge that one of the most widely-anticipated chases of the year is nearly upon us as well - the King George Chase. Generally considered to be the premier prep for the ultimate prize in steeplechasing - the Cheltenham Gold Cup - we can expect a real corker of a race this time around.

There are still a few in the mix prior to the final declaration stage and you can obviously expect a few to withdraw and be pointed elsewhere. The going will certainly be a factor, as will the weather in general, and we can expect a few to jump right out and have a clear advantage.
At the moment, the betting public is very much favouring the top-rated contender in the race, Cue Card, who stands tall with an RPR of 183. From an official-rating standpoint he is just a shade behind Silviniaco Conti at 172. However, it’s clear that Cue Card is the pure form horse having romped home in the Betfair Chase by an emphatic 4.5 lengths ahead of Dynaste.
Sent off at a hefty 9/1 on the day against a field of eight, Cue Card finally delivered the performance that many of us knew he was capable of doing all along. He was able to win the Ryanair Chase at the last Cheltenham Festival but was soundly beaten by Sprinter Sacre at Aintree next time out. It’s really no shame to be coming second to the up-and-coming chasing sensation, but being able to conquer the Betfair at Haydock showed that this is a horse with logical Gold Cup aspirations.
Right now, punters are very much basing their ante post wagers off of the results of the Betfair Chase with Cue Card and Dynaste both considered the top two contenders in the mix.
Look for Cue Card at around 5/2 but you could also reckon that he’s probably going to be at or around that price on the day, so it may be worthwhile backing a selection whose price is going to drop significantly and may present some arbitrage opportunities.
