- By A.J. Ryder on July 16, 2014 14:20 GMTThe ante post market for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes is well under way and, even though this race generally only draws a short field each year, there are a number of really talented runners in the mix for this one so not only should we see a fantastic betting market we should also see a really interesting race unfold as well. There is a lot to like about the way this one is shaping up and we already have a few clear contenders emerging at the outset.

Up first is Telescope, who is reigning as the 7/4 ante post choice right now with virtually all major bookmakers. He’s coming into this one fresh off of a Group 2 score in the Hardwicke Stakes against Hillstar - emerging as the winner by a fantastic seven length margin.
Telescope had been out twice previously in the year and has come up short both times against Noble Mission - a contender who has really come into his own in his four-year-old year. The fact remains about Telescope that he has never finished outside of the top two at any point in his career and, though this will be his first step up into Group 1 company, you can get the feeling that he should be able to handle it considering the type of company he has kept in the past.
Magician has been in the midst of a solid run recently but will look to get back to winning ways after just missing out in his two previous efforts. Aidan O’Brien boasts the ability to get horses ready for big races like this when they have been knocking on the door for a while.
The fact remains, however, that Magician’s only real victory this year came in a very weak Group 3 encounter at the Curragh when he was sent off as the microscopic 2/13 betting favourite. Defeats to Noble Mission and The Fugue (since retired) are nothing to get down about but you get the feeling that they want to bounce back with a confidence boosting victory here.
