National Hunt Betting Preview for Saturday November 19: Amlin Chase

The Grade 2 Amlin Chase gets us off to a great start on Saturday's televised card. This one really appears to be a face-off between Captain Chris and quality chaser Master Minded with little separating the pair according to the bookmakers. Punters will find Master Minded trading as the slim favourite with a 2/1 price tag ahead of 9/4 Captain Chris.

It will be interesting to see how Master Minded handles the 11-11 assignment – especially against a progressive gelding such as Captain Chris. He got unlucky last time out when he unseated Richard Johnson at Exeter in his seasonal debut but he will likely have worked the kinks out with that one and appears to be raring to go – turned out just over two weeks later. A fresh horse with lots left to show, look for the seven-year-old son of King's Theatre to take some money on the day as well.

Connections can expect him to be in contention once again around festival time.

There are a few others deserving of some plaudits here as well with Somersby looking the most likely spoiler at a 7/2 margin. He's an interesting selection based on the high discrepancy between his RPR and his OR. You'll find him officially rated in the mid 150's – a good sixteen points off MM – but his RPR puts him just a point off Master Minded at 178. Impressive.

There is still a lot to expect from Somersby and some appear willing to believe he'll not only be able to flash improved quality, but be able to capitalize on the mistakes from the leading pair of contenders.

Medermit can be backed around 8/1 and looks in the frame for a slice of this one – only finishing outside the top three once in his last five contests. Kalahari King went off the boil a bit last year but still deserves respect. 12/1 is not unreasonable and he may run better one race off the freshening.

Living-legend Kinkeel is set for a kick at this one with just a week having past since his last effort – a fourth from five at Cheltenham when sent off at 125/1. He's going for the world record in chases this year and doesn't usually find the line first but always manages to run his race. Give him an each-way shout at 500/1.
