Punchestown Festival Wednesday Betting Preview PT 1

The Punchestown Festival is in full swing and the de facto finale to the National Hunt season enters its second day on Wednesday with a stellar selection of races that will be offering up plenty of value for punters. We have a few solid Grade 1 contests set to unfold in addition to a couple of extremely deep handicap races that have some really interesting outside contenders so there are a pile of very good opportunities here to make some money.

The opening race is the deepest contest of the day and we have about 29 different entries here with the two favourites both listed at a very tempting 8/1 price tag with the Willy Mullins-trained Nickname Exit while Eight Till Late is a bit better rated but continues to trade at the same price. Nickname Exit also carries an additional five pounds here.

Mullins had an excellent day today with a pronounced sweep of all the graded contests that many expect to continue into tomorrow. The outside option to keep your eye on is Mullins’ four-year-old contender Tarabiyn who is regally-bred and has been putting in a few decent shifts as of late.

He finished second in a 4yo hurdle at Limerick and was bested by the talented Chatham House. You’ll find him trading at a 16/1 margin which makes him a strong each-way selection if you can get somebody to pay out five places.

In the second contest we have a 4yo Hurdle contest going 2m4f with a very strong Henry De Bromhead selection in Identity Thief. He lines up in the Giggnstown House Stud colours and will be a popular option here after finishing second in a novice hurdle at Fairyhouse when sent off at 7/1. He attempted a Grade 1 at Leopardstown back in February but was pulled up by Bryan Cooper.

Right now, he’s trading as low as a 2/1 margin and will likely go shorter on the day as many public handicappers have him selected as their nap.
