Elm Park is in sharp contrast to Aidan O’Brien’s Royal Navy Ship, who has only had a solitary run - though it came against a tough field of 22 during a good run at the Curragh in a very prominent and prestigious maiden race. He triumphed over his stablemate Jacobean, who was the 10/3 betting favourite in his effort along with another O’Brien charge The Happy Prince who was a 12/1 shot that more or less outran his odds to finish fifth.

It was an impressive performance on the day as he tracked midway through the field and then was able to quicken admirably and move through a crowd to kick on and triumph by a length and a half. It’s not easy to do in a bigger field like that and the fact that he only ran his debut contest in mid-October shows that they think this one could be a major player in the Classic races next season.

While we can’t expect a significant amount of maturity infusing that horse just two weeks after his first run, he will have learned a bit from that despite not coming on physically at all. While he looks to be much more of a wildcard than Elm Park, he looks like he has significantly more up-side as Elm Park making mistakes similar to the ones he made during his Group 2 victory would likely see him get done in by the high-flying Royal Navy Ship.

Both contenders are trading at 3.50 price tags right now and it’s interesting to see whether the odds will move significantly with a favourite emerging as we get closer to post time.

Those looking to beat the two favourites will likely be siding with Sir Mark Prescott’s Celestial Path who is by Footstepsinthesand and remains undefeated after two efforts - one of them a listed contest at Haydock in early September. The manner of that victory was impressive with a nice four length margin against a field of five setting him up well to move forward.
