Saturday's Scoop6 National Hunt Preview Part 1

There's a really solid Scoop6 up for grabs this weekend with a sextet of races mixing it up between Newbury and Newcastle. The win fund contains a hefty £559,218 while the bonus pool is floating at £623,875. This is a very winnable Scoop6 and there are a few races here that should see a few further withdrawals.

The first contest of the day is the 1:30 at Newbury as fifteen contenders go 2m6f over fences. Tim Vaughan's Our Island comes into this one in his third start off the lay-off and progressed nicely in his last race, finishing second by nearly three lengths to Connak. He's taken money each time and has been looking better and better. He'll be forced to navigate the high-weight in this one and that might put some off of him. Iron Chancellor is a there-or-thereabouts type who just seems to struggle to find the line on as many occasions as he would like. He turns out for the Alan King yard and will be looking to kick on in his third start of the season.

Made In Time won last time out by a ridiculous 34 lengths at Ffos Las in a novices' chase. He has great connections and it was his first effort over proper fences after a rough spat on the hurdles where he only won a single race from six.

Wyck Hill has taken two from two this year and will keep Tom Scudamore for this one.

In the 1:45 at Newcastle is another handicap chase going 2m4f over ground rated good to soft. A horse with plenty of upside that looks bang on form is the talented seven-year-old O Crotaigh. He's set for his fifth run of the season and made a switch over to fences two-back. He was beaten by a nose in his first effort when sent off at 12/1 and then came out of the gate a lukewarm 3/1 favourite next time out and win convincingly against a field of nine. Both efforts came at Market-Rasen.

Red Kingdom came nicely last time as well and showed some serious improvement. He looks like he'll be able to take advantage of a nice weighting for this one and will certainly go off at a nice price. Look for him as an interesting each-way shout.

The 2:05 at Newbury is the Sporingbet Intermediate Hurdle where the likes of First Fandango appears as an interesting option for a single. Rock On Ruby is another high-quality runner but must carry six pounds more than any other contender. There are a number in here who have won recently and only a few are using it as a seasonal debut.

Raya Star is entered for the Alan King yard and the five-year-old scored on his first outing of the season by 3.5 lengths at Wetherby. He is rated at 120 right now and will be looking to come on and improve even more here. He's had a few falls in the past but has always run well in races he has been able to finish. He seldom has gone off at much of a price so be sure to take advantage of his first real big step up in class.

Dream Function is a lightly-raced six-year-old son of King's Theatre who has taken two on the bounce so far this year, albeit on the mares novice circuit. She gets a nice weight advantage here and will be keen to flash some quality against the boys. Philip Hobbs can pick his spots nicely and wouldn't have her entered here for no reason.
