The 3:10 at Newbury is the day's feature – the Hennessy Gold Cup Chase. This is a big race with plenty of exciting contenders and there's a number of different directions this one could go in.

The betting favourite has been Aiteen Thirtythree for quite a while and Paul Nicholls has a tremendous record in this race. Stablemate Neptune Collonges enters carring a massive weight penalty – especially one for a horse that doesn't really win very often.
Aiteen Thirtythree finished second to Somersby in his first outing this year and didn't really impress that much but likely needed the race. Nicholls will have him in good form for this one and he is a logical winner. Unfortunately so are some of the others.
Planet Of Sound is carrying ten lbs less than Neptune Collonges and should take advantage of that. The one to really watch out for is Sarando, who scored by eleven lengths in the Betfair Graduation Chase. Regally bred by Juddmonte, the six-year-old son of Hernando never really flourished over the flat but has acquited himself well in certain spots on the chase circuit.
David Pipe's Great Endeavour is also worth watching.
The 3:30 at Newcastle has a few interesting ones and the top-weight by a good distance is the Colin Tizzard-trained Hey Big Spender. Despite not scoring in five races he maintains a very solid OR of 151 and could have the measure of a limited field of only eight contenders here. He's beaten some quality horses and deserves respect so you can expect him to come on from his prep race before this one.
Ashfield's Dream comes in off a victory last time out and has taken two from four over fences. Garleton has finished second twice in a row and didn't miss by much last time at Kelso. More than worth a look in a race without a genuine standout.
The final race is the 3:45 and if you're still alive at this point, god be with you. This handicap chase features fifteen contenders going 2m4f. Fistral Beach goes off as the top weight and he's a force to be reckoned with when he runs his best race. Paul Nicholls should have him sharp for this one and a win on his debut this season adds further confidence – especially at an eight-length margin.
Hector's Choice, a seven-year-old son of Grey Risk also scored on his seasonal debut at Aintree. Coup Royale is a quality contender and also deserves respect.
