St Leger Day at Doncaster Betting Preview PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on September 12, 2015 18:30 GMTNext up we have a 22 strong field in the Ladbrokes Portland Handicap where we have a deep field of potential winners. It's always tricky betting big fields in sprint races since there is such little margin for error but no real questions over anybody's ability to get the trip. The pace dynamics of the race shouldn't be too extraordinary and there are many who be benefited by the good ground that will be on offer at Doncaster on Saturday.

Charlie Hills and William Buick team up on the interesting B Fifty Two who was able to muster up a second place finish last time out after a steady string of bunk performances. This might be the right time to back him and the presence of Buick really attracts in this one because if the horse comes good then you'll be enjoying a tidy payout here.
When you factor in the addition of the extra places that will be on offer with most major bookmakers then you can assume that this one could be a real factor. Ten year old warhorse Tangerine Trees is in the mix here this time too and is down at the bottom of the handicap with Fergal Lynch booked for the trip.
He's been punching it out and coming close to hitting the board a few times this year without any real success. He deserves respect in a handicap that is not especially deep and would be a tidy payout just for finishing in the placings as well as that is what he appears to be running for here as opposed to the outright score.
The third race of the day is the Saint Gobain Weber Park Stakes which is another Group 2 contest and this one is actually pretty deep in terms of the quality on offer and the difficulty of really handicapping this one out. Henry Candy's Limato looks appealing and should command plenty of respect having never finished outside of the top two in any of his last races.
He's been on a steady string of second place finishes for a while now and will be looking to break that duck here against this talented field of fifteen.
