The 2013 Ladbroke Betting Tips PT 1
- By A.J. This is one of the most hotly-contested 2m handicaps of the year and the big field on offer can make this one difficult to predict in terms of outright race shape.

With only 2m to navigate, there isn’t a huge amount of time recover from mistakes. The big field makes it that much more likely that your contender gets hampered on the run-in when they are still full of run but with nowhere to go.
Rolling Star is a mere four years of age and has made a name for himself over the past year or so after conquering a Grade 2 contest at Cheltenham last year in January and then disappointing many at the festival when he could only muster up a sixth place finish in the JCB Triumph Hurdle. Sent off as the 5/2 favourite in that race he was bested by well over 20 lengths by the impressive Our Connor.
Another disappointing performance (again as the 5/2 favourite) followed at Aintree before he was put on the shelf until late November - romping home to grab a Class 2 Handicap worth 25k. Nicky Henderson’s charge is currently headlining the antepost market at an 11/2 price tag right now and that’s likely due to the improving form and the fact that he gets Barry Geraghty for this race.
It’s also worth noting that he demonstrated the ability to stay on in the crucial stages at 2m whereas in his festival appearance at 2m1f and 2m1/2f he was thoroughly one-paced. He is only four so he still has plenty of upside as he goes forward and the gamble here is that he will move forward and have improved off the last run as he will need more than that to tackle this large field.
He has come a long way since running at obscure French jumps tracks and could make a major statement if he can justify his favourites position by capturing the 2013 Ladbroke.
