With just a few days left until the kick-off of the 2000 Guineas and the de facto “serious season” for the English flat season, it also means that we only have a short period before the Tote Ten To Follow begins as well. There is a lot to like about the competition - not to mention the minimum £50,000 payout at the end of the season on top of the £2,500 monthly prizes up for grabs.

The top ten leaderboard finishers will all be in the money at the end of the season. As usual there are several key bonus races that offer up double points. They include all the major Group 1’s from all the key meetings and it’s important to pick a good mix of runners who are pointed at a diverse amount of races.
Far too many TenToFollow tickets are dead in the water as soon as they are submitted because 80% of the contenders are pointed at the St James Palace, the Coral Eclipse and not much else. Even throwing in a longer distance specialist is important because a dominant 2m+ horse can rack up a few easy Group 1 victories as the field in those can be rather weak.
Another important piece of advice is a good mix of 3YO’s and older contenders. It’s also very important not to ignore fillies and mares as well - there are a number of female-oriented bonus races. The best advice for a winning TenToFollow ticket is to get the balance of runners correct.
Our best balancing act is including 4 male 3YO’s to contest the main classics like the 2000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby and the St Leger is a wise idea - you don’t want to overdue it on the 3YO’s because there are only so many bonus races for them and the bulk of the Group 1’s are for older colts and geldings. You also usually get a few 3YO’s taking a step up and battling it out on the older circuit - but this usually only happens after the Epsom Derby.
