Travers Stakes Betting Preview Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on August 22, 2014 15:41 GMTThe real wild card in the race appears to be Shug McGaughey’s Mr. Speaker who the European books have trading at a 10/1 margin right now. While he appears to be a turf specialist to many, the trainer knows what he’s doing and the horses’ pedigree screams dirt acumen.

Look for Mr. Speaker to be the real spoiler here at his price tag that could actually rise significantly if the punters veer towards the likes of Bayern.
The other interesting contenders in the mix here include the likes of Kid Cruz and Commanding Curve - both ran some decent races during the Triple Crown chase. In particular, Commanding Curve’s excellent second place finish to California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby where he beat the odds and romped a clear second at a whopping price that made many people’s days.
Kid Cruz has been campaigned a bit beyond his limits according to some American contenders as a lot would have preferred to see him be run through his conditions instead of pushing on the way that he did at the highest levels.
He was vaunted by some to be a spoiler for the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico but he was absolutely no match for California Chrome and faded from the race relatively quickly, which was a real disappointment to some.
Punters will find Kid Cruz at 14/1 and Commanding Curve at a very enticing 16/1 that should see some action.
The others in the mix include the likes of V.E. Day at 18/1 alongside Charge Now and Viva Majorca at 20/1 apiece. The caboose is brought up by the 50/1 longshot Ulanbator.
