Wednesday at Goodwood Betting Preview Part 1

Expect plenty of action and excitement on day two of Glorious Goodwood. There is a lot to like about the day’s action as the big feature contest, the 2013 Sussex Stakes, is set for its latest iteration. There are some extremely talented runners set to tackle that 1m distance and the hype and buzz is all surrounding the latest showdown between Dawn Approach and Toronado.

While the focus is obviously on the major Group 1, which runs as the third contest of the day, there are plenty of other excellent money-making opportunities up for grabs to the savvy punter.

The first contest of the day is a long distance 2m5f flat contest which is run as a fairly big handicap. 20 entries are in the mix for this one and there are a few recognizable names on the card. 

Gassin Golf gets the top weight here and the four-year-old son of Montjeu has been running there-or-thereabouts for quite some time but has not made the breakthrough for quite some time. Look for him to put in his best shift here but you may think he needs a break in the weights to really get the job done. 

He was pulled up in the JCB Triumph Hurdle with Tom Scudamore up in the irons. His only victory came in a handicap at Haydock last June and he has managed to finish in second place five times from eight races since that point.

Surely, he must be considered for the bottom end of the exotic wagers and a number of those margins are quite short - several of those second place finishes have been by less than a length so you do wonder whether he can actually get the job done here.
